Why Use Natural Handmade Soap?

Soap by any other name(body wash, skin cleanser, bath gel) is still a surfactant and water.  All of which will get you clean.  So why use Natural Soap?
The most common surfactant in many skin care products is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS).  There is strong evidence that SLS causes irritation in many individuals.  Udder Soap products are NEVER made with SLS, Petroleum, mineral oil, animal fat, propylene glycol, DMDM hydantoin, or other chemical additives you cannot pronounce.    Most commercial soap are actually detergents bars made with petroleum products which are very efficient at de-greasing.   More about the effects of de-greasing a little later.  Skin absorbs most of what it comes in contact with (e.g., medications are now administered successfully through absorbent patches that are placed directly on the skin) that is why it is so important to use products that are made with safe, healthy natural ingredients.  Udder Soap products are ONLY made with all natural ingredients.  Most liquid soaps add a residue to the soap to make the fragrance stick to your skin longer.  The other day I was at a public restroom and washed my hands with a very popular commercial liquid hand soap.  After I returned home, I had to wash my hands twice with my natural soap before I could no longer smell the fragrance.  Don't get me wrong the fragrance smelt wonderful, but I knew it was irritating and drying my hands staying on my skin like that.  With all the chemicals and unnatural products in body washes, soaps and detergent bars it is no wonder people have so many skin problems.
One major skin problem is dry, flaky, itchy skin.  Part of the reason why natural soap is better for dry skin is the glycerin, which is a humectant, is left in the soap.  One molecule of glycerin is created for every three molecules of soap.  Commercial soap makers remove the glycerin, which is very valuable, and sells it to the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries to use in other things like their expensive lotions and creams.  If you think about it, commercial soap is really just a by-product when they make glycerin.  Natural Udder Soap retains all of its natural occurring glycerin. Therefore you will not need to purchase so many bottles of lotion when the glycerin is left in the soap.  When you buy soap at the grocery, department or discount stores, chances are you will be buying a detergent bar, not soap, often called 'bath bars', 'body bars', or 'complexion bars'.  A detergent is any surfactant that is not a soap.  A soap is a salt made of fatty acids and an alkali.  A detergent is typically made using petroleum products.  The fatty acids used to produce our natural soap are all derived from all vegetable sources, like olive oil, caster oil, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil.  Believe this or not but many restaurants sell the waste fat and meat drippings to cosmetic companies for use in the manufacture of soap, shampoos, and lotions.  So you see why detergent bars strip or de-grease the skin of its sebum (oil naturally produced by the skin).  Without sebum, skin has nothing to prevent moisture from evaporating from the skin.  This makes our skin have to work extra hard to try and replace the sebum stripped off every time we bathe. If you think about it, if you don't strip off the sebum you won't have to add that commercial moisturizer that is suppose to "form a moisture barrier on your skin", (FYI that commercial barrier is usually made with some type of petroleum).
Besides for all the previous mentioned chemicals, commercial companies added triclosan.  Triclosan was developed to help aide our body's  natural ability to fight off disease by killing germs and bacteria, but actually it has been proven to do the opposite.  Triclosan, which is found in most antibacterial soaps and lotions, is registered by the EPA as a pesticide, which makes it score HIGH RISK to both human health and the environment.  Triclosan is stored in our body fat and can accumulate to toxic levels, damaging the liver, kidneys, and lungs.  It has long been suspected of causing cancer and skin irritations.  So even thought the idea behind antibacterial soaps was a good one, the ingredients in many commercial soap were a poor choice.  If you want a natural antibacterial soap choose one made with honey, which is a natural antibacterial agent.  Udder Soap has two excellent bars made with honey.  "Goat's Milk & Honey" and "Oatmeal, Milk & Honey", which are also two of our most popular bars.
Thank you for taking the time to read all this.  Most people do not realize that many of the products on the market are made with dangerous chemicals that absorb into our circulatory system through our skin.  The body of an average adult has 21 square feet of skin which is composed of around 300,000,000(three hundred million) skin cells.  This makes skin the largest organ of the body.  Therefore, it absorbs 50% more toxins.  Even though we are constantly being told how the small amounts being used are so minimal that they are actually "harmless."  Overtime those "minimal amounts" builds up to a dangerous level, so they are no longer small harmless doses.  Every day new diseases are being discovered, and we are seeing an increase in different types of cancers and lung diseases.
Many people with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne, and other complexion problems are finding that the method commercial soap companies use to make soap (removing the glycerin, using inexpensive oils and fats, adding chemicals and heavy perfumes) contribute to their skin problems.  Their skin problems and conditions or the affliction they seem to be born with, may be an affliction created by the use of the skin care products they choose and the gunk that's in them!  Dermatologists apparently think it is easier to write a prescription to treat the symptom than to find the source of the problem.
Udder Soap is a healthy alternative.  Try a few bars and see for yourself if you don't feel cleaner (no sticky residue) softer (no drying detergents) and healthier (no chemicals) using Udder Soap Products.

Disclaimer:
While our soaps and lotions are all natural and essential oils have been known to offer many health-related benefits, please do not use our soap as a "cure-all."  Natural soap has many, many benefits, but a claim by any soapmaker to cure an aliment or disease would not only be illegal but also highly suspicious.  Eczema and other skin problems are caused by many factors, including allergies.  It cannot be cured by soap.   However we have had many customers, including children, who have seen improvement in their condition by switching to our Natural Soaps and Lotions.  You can read some of their
testimonials.  Nobody said their skin got worse, only better when they quit using products with sodium lauryl sulfate and other chemicals, and used products made with natural and essential oils.

Thanks for your time and interest.
